Five Minute Friday, Writing

Like a Tiger

Today’s prompt for Five Minute Friday was tired. This wasn’t quite what I had in mind when I picked up my pen, but it’s what flowed out.

Like a Tiger . . .

You know those days? The ones that come sneaking around the corner and pounce on you like a ravenous jungle creature? They’re wild and heavy and relentless and no matter how much you struggle, you simply can’t get away. You will be eaten.

And yet you wake up again the next day to do it again. A bit more fatigued, a bit more scarred but, miraculously, still alive.

Why is it that that those days come in multiples? Why can’t they stand alone? “Bye, Tiger! Hope I don’t see you for awhile!”

No, first it’s the tiger. Then the leopard. Then the jaguar. And when the jungle cats have finally had their fill, you lie there, waiting. Wondering what creature lies in wait for you next, and just how long it will be before it pounces.

But you go on. Because you must. And you pray those days won’t creep up again for a long time.

I’m linked up at Five Minute Friday, so why not jump over there and visit some of the other writers who joined in this week? You can also read my last Five Minute Friday post here.

  1. Hi Rebekah,
I loved this: “Why is it that that those days come in multiples? Why can’t they stand alone? “Bye, Tiger! Hope I don’t see you for awhile!””

I would totally like be telling the tiger “Bye! Don’t come back for a week or ever!” today. Thank you for sharing this on five minute Friday. Made me feel a tad better and I totally want to go around saying, Bye, Tiger!

    Lol.
